Elisabeth Young was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. From a young age, community development and advocacy were a passion of hers, as she began supporting community projects that advocated for migrants’ rights in her hometown. She later majored in Latin American Studies at Mount Holyoke College, to learn more about indigenous and migrant populations and develop fluency in Spanish to further support diverse communities. After graduating, she joined Teach for America in Brooklyn, New York. Elisabeth gained a variety of teaching experiences in elementary school education, while earning her Masters of Teaching from RELAY Graduate School of Education and a Masters in Public Administration and Non-Profit Policy and Management from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service. Elisabeth has spent over 10 years in and outside of the classroom supporting teachers, operations and school leaders. Her leadership focuses on her ability to foster community and collaboration between families, parents, teachers, school leaders, and community based organizations to increase student achievement through experiential learning. She is most passionate about making learning fun and meaningful for students by leveraging their interests and providing out of classroom experiences that will give meaning and ownership to students’ learning. In addition to student engagement, Elisabeth also values the importance of teacher, school leader and family support and wellness to facilitate student learning, development and achievement. |
